Itinerary Highlights
Southampton
This English borough, located on an inlet of the English Channel, is the country's busiest deep-water port. Southampton is a vibrant city known for its rich maritime history and its meandering Old Town walls. The city's Westgate is where the Pilgrims set sail for America aboard the Mayflower.
Lisbon
The small capital of Portugal is older than Rome - older, in fact, than any other western European capital. Pastel-colour houses line tiny, stepped alleys in old parts of town, while wide boulevards and mosaic cobblestone sidewalks highlight its grand 18th-century centre. The Alfama, an old Moorish quarter, retains its intricate, Arab-influenced layout.
Cadiz
Almost entirely surrounded by water, this ancient Roman port has a history marked by conquest and destruction. Some of the city's 18th century walls still stand, and its medieval, if not dilapidated charm is evident in its crumbling Moorish structures.
Casablanca
A far cry from the sleepy dive town immortalized in the movie of the same name, Casablanca is a busting, brassy city and one of Africa's largest ports. Portuguese, Arab, Spanish and French influences give the city an allure unlike any other in the world.
Madeira
The "Pearl of the Atlantic" has a luxuriant landscape covered in mountains, volcanic ash, eucalyptus trees and tropical flowers. The Island, which is part of Portugal, is famous for its wine, blissful climate and village festivals.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Situated in a large natural bay, the capital of Tenerife in the Canary Islands has a stunning backdrop of the Anaga mountains. The manner in which the city bay embraces the sea with two arms is emblematic of the welcoming spirit of the city's inhabitants.
Las Palmas
Floating off the west coast of Africa, Gran Canaria is an island where natures many faces come together. A rocky coastline embraces most of the island, while beaches dot the periphery. Desert-style dunes adorn the south, and leafy mountains crown the center. Outdoor lovers will find spectacular views while they surf, hike, bike or go on a road trip with Canary Islands cruises
Arrecife Spain
Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote, is a quiet, beautiful port city situated on the eastern coast of the island. Sharing prominence in its urban layout are the streets of the historic centre, filled with shops, and popular neighbourhoods. Not forgetting the many museums and historic buildings which permit Arrecife to enjoy an active cultural life.
Vigo
The capital of Catalonia boasts the bustle of the world's busiest seaport, the medieval romance of its Gothic Quarter, and a feast of Catalan Art Nouveau buildings - including the great creations of Antonio Gaudí. The "Great Enchantress" remains one of the most exhilarating cities in Europe, decorated with the grandeur of Picasso, Miró and Dalí.
